Well this is my first Blog and blog postings ever! I use Host Gator as my web hosting company. My site is on a shared Linux box. Host Gator uses Fantastico De Luxe, which is a PHP based web application that automates the installation of a bunch of different Open Source Apps, such as Word Press, which is what I am using for this Travel Blog. I registered the domain name evstravelblog.com and attached it as an add-on domain to my main domain of chi-evie.com. I am using the free page-style 1.6 wordpress theme by page, but I modified it, as allowed under its GPL (General Public License). The original design had 3 columns (one for the posts, and two for navigation), but I only wanted two columns, so I combinined all the navigation into one sidebar and enlarged the posting area. Since the two sidebar columns were different widths, with background images of different widths, I needed to modify those graphics slightly, as well as the code. I love the layout and colors of this theme, the backgrounds were a little too noisy for me, with graphic elements that were intended, I suppose, to give it more texture, but I prefer a cleaner look so I made the background images more uniformly solid in color and less speckled looking. I love ducks, so I incorporated a couple of webbed feet into the header. Hopefully they convey a sense of whimsical motion. Ta Da!
